Budding explorers

Adventures and outings for families

Bagnoles de l’Orne has a big programme of activities and leaflets specially designed for children. Play detective with the Champimignon family, try a paper chase around the castle or the Belle Epoque quarter or take part in a treasure hunt in the forest – there’s plenty to choose from if you want to amuse the kids!

The Orienteering Trail

The orienteering trail will teach children to read a map and work out where they are on the ground. The aim is to find the signs in the Parc du Château de La Roche-Bagnoles or the Forêt des Andaines and add stamps to their booklet to show where they’ve been. This outdoor activity requires both thought and a competitive edge in order to find all the checkpoints as quickly as possible. The winner will be decided by the stopwatch!

There are two trails to choose from, a beginners route in the Parc du Château and the Saint Ortaire trail in the Forêt des Andaines for the more experienced. Maps and booklets are freely available from the tourist office : Château de la Roche-Bagnoles Trail or Saint Ortaire Trail.

A discovery trail in 20 steps

This outdoor trail takes you to the resort’s iconic sites so you can learn about the history of Bagnoles de l’Orne. There are 20 stops along the way that include the main historic buildings, urban spaces and natural wonders of the town.

All the way along the trail, children follow in the footsteps of the Champimignon family as they journey to the heart of Bagnoles. They must help them find the answers to the questions. Each answer can be found on the next sign.

Environment, history, architecture, geology, legends and anecdotes are all included. Audio commentary can be accessed using QR codes on the posts or an audio guide can be hired from the tourist office.

You will find out all about the mystery of the Forêt des Andaines, the legends surrounding the waters of Bagnoles de l’Orne and the secrets of the château. The trail also explores some unusual places such as the Pierres Plates and La Tanière.

Nature activities for children

Head out into the natural environment around Bagnoles de l’Orne with a guide. Orienteering, treasure hunts, animal tracking, flower pressing and plant weaving are some of the activities on offer. Each outing is an opportunity to explore nature through a different theme.

Family nature activities last around two hours and take place on Wednesdays during school holidays and on some Saturdays throughout the year. Activities take place in the Forêt des Andaines or the Parc du Château de La Roche-Bagnoles.
