Johnny Mullenax, a native of Tulsa, grew up in a family of musicians. He began playing guitar at the age of 5. As a teenager, he accompanied his family to the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield. True to himself, Johnny arrived with nothing but a guitar and ended up sleeping in a double bass case.

At age 18, he used a friend’s ID to get into a club where he was part of a live hip-hop band backing up rappers. According to Johnny: “Life is too short to play just one style of music, and if you have the chance to try something different, then you have to give it a shot.”

Citing a wide range of influences—from AC/DC and the Ramones to John Coltrane and Parliament—Johnny describes his eclectic musical style as funky, festive bluegrass country music, made for hard-working people.
