Few old prisons are still open to visitors, but the one in Tinchebray, with over 400 years of history, offers a fascinating insight into the justice system of yesteryear.
Cells, dungeons, a chapel and a courtroom reveal the daily life of prisoners and suspects during the troubled times of the French Revolution. The atmosphere is intact, the emotion very real.

The tour continues in the Salle du Conseil and then in the Tribunal, where you have the surprising impression of attending a court hearing in progress.
The tour is led by Bernard Deveaux, a passionate guide with a deep attachment to the site, who brings these walls steeped in history to life and enthusiastically conveys the human dimension of this exceptional site.
